Excuse me but Into Darkness has been out for a week, why are there no posts talking about the fact that Cucumberpatch makes the face that suggests he’s going to steal christmas
I mean really
I HAVE BEEN SITTING HERE FOR A WEEK TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THAT STUPID FACE REMINDED ME OF AND THIS IS IT. THIS IS IT. THE FUCKING GRINCH.
THIS SCENE WAS LITERALLY THE TEXTBOOK DEFINITION
#you know it’s bad when you’re less progressive than a show from the 60’s
It’s sad because Marcus actually didn’t suck, JJ Abrams just does.
see also: the sex scene with the two cat girls :\
you know I’m kind of pissed the cat girls only had two boobs they’re supposed to have three I mean if you’re going to throw in unnecessary scenes make them accurate(ish)
It’s 2013 and we got to see exactly 50% of the named, recurring female characters in their underwear.
This statistic was very easy to calculate because, unless my data sample is flawed (i.e. I’m forgetting someone), there were exactly two named, recurring female characters.
yilduza asked: cumbershit bumbledork was honestly by far the worst part of the movie too, he just didn't have the charmisa or acting chops to pull off anything other than a whinyass glare sooooo the whole ~best man for the job argument~ rly has nothing there
STAR TREK SPOILERS
You know, i’m gonna half agree with this….
Believe it or not I actually like Bennydowntown Abbeybottom. I honestly think he’s a pretty talented person, however, I think he works best with either subdued characters or on stage. I saw his performance in Frankenstein. He was fantastic there.
That being said, he wasn’t at his best in the movie, the way it was shot was clearly too close for him. JJ Abrams “Annoying Glare the movie experience!” uses a lot of close ups with panning shots for emotion and action. At times Ben clearly lacked a real understanding of what he was really supposed to be feeling (or thinking) so he lapsed into “Sherlock impassive” and then would suddenly swing to “YAAAAAAAAAAAAR”
And if Khan was supposed to be unstable I guess that works? But, wait, that’s not Khan. In Wrath of Khan, yeah he’s def got some issues, but he wasn’t completely gone.
Which, really, just makes me more upset, it wasn’t just a waste of Khan, it was a waste of Benedict as well. If the time had been taken to create a villain that fit his acting style it would have worked and no whitewashing. The movie probably would have been better for it.
But ya’ll at one point he def made this face:

and I just…???? (Okay more like Elise and i laughed but still)
Anonymous asked: I think they were trying to avoid the whole "brown people are terrorists" stereotype, and be more like "the face of evil is actually this charming white dude".
mmmm
SPOILERSSSSS
Sorry, no.
See, the problem with that line of thinking is that they only ever want “fix” this issue when it comes to certain villains. The ones that aren’t blatant stereotypes. Hollywood doesn’t care when it’s adhering to its usual stereotypes. But when you get one that’s not a stereotype suddenly they’re shying away from PoC being bad guys.
But okay, let’s say they wanted to avoid that. How nice of them, I’m glad. But answer this.
Why he still Khan tho?
They could have made up a character and nothing in the movie would have changed.
I’ve seen the movie, it was a waste of Khan tbh, he wasn’t Khan not really, he was a terrorist and sympathetic for maybe 30 mins and then “WELP I’M EVIL -giant ass blue glare- LET ME DO MORE EVIL THINGS THAT ARE EVIL. -retread of Wrath of Khan here-“ He’s a better character as John Harrison tbh.
Nah, they weren’t avoiding nothing but adding another character of color that would have to have more than 3 lines.
Anonymous asked: I thought Birkadirk Cubmerblich was playing some new villain that J Jonah ABrahams made up? Names John Harrison? Not Kahn? ??
Nah, it’s an alias. They tried to hide it and then NOPE.
Khan as a villain is interesting for several reasons. In the Star Trek Universe history is the same for quite a long time but diverges in random bits and pieces.
The Eugenic Wars were started after Genetically Enhanced humans decided “lol fuck it” and took over “Genetically enhanced ambition blah blah”. They were enhanced using a mix of bioengineering and selective breeding.
Khan, was a ruler of their captured territories from Asia to much of the Middle East. He’s described as having been pretty damn benevolent, never being outright evil, ruling with ‘Firm but Fair’ and actually sticking to it.
When he met Kirk (in Space Seed, aired in 1967, great episode.) it’s pretty obvious that they’re…kinda, not really, almost mirror images of each others styles. They’re both suave and sophisticated, they’re not mean to their crew, they’re respectful and even generous at certain times. They have a lot in common.
Khan was not a mindless bad guy who just wanted to TAKE OVAH DA WORLD! He was a man with a plan and the smarts to get it done. Him being stronger was just a combat plus, you don’t get to rule just because you’re able to take everyone down, nah bro, you gotta be prepared to do taxes and run settlements and shit.
Khan was prepared to do all that and more, do you know how hard it is to find…any character of color like that? People of Color being villains isn’t the real issue, it’s when we’re only the villain and the same kind of villain. Khan was/is and should be the pinnacle of a “different” villain.
To have that taken away kinda feels like, “Oh no, it’s not believable that a PoC could do all this! NOPE.”
Is he an awful person willing to let people die for his ambitions? Ch’yeah, but would you say serving under his crew would be a completely terrible fate? I bet the dude had killer health benefits.
There be spoilah’s heya, do not read.
They should just rename The Walking Dead Game;
“Goddammit Ben I gave you one job.”
It’s okay tho, I still love him.
