The Musings of a Failed Black Woman;
Jourdyn, 22, PoC

Come talk to me if you're bored cause I'll always respond. I like to think I'm friendly but idk, let's find out.

My shitty writing
I'm kind of a flake but feel free to leave a prompt. You never know, I may do it. I'll def tell if I won't/can't

I also sometimes make shitty gifs/graphics. IDK

IDK how casting Bagels Cucumbers as Khan isn’t disrespectful to Gene Roddenberry tbh.

That man fought networks tooth and nail to have people of different races on his show. He fought long and hard to have an interracial kiss on TV.

My grandmother does not like Sci-Fi, but you better believe her ass was watching Star Trek, you know why? Because it was one of the few places you could see a black woman on TV. And she had an important job! She was important! She wasn’t just in the background.

Shit, as fake and hokey as Chekov’s accent was, he made sure there was a russian on the show, why? BECAUSE HIS VERSION OF THE FUTURE WAS ONE OF DIVERSITY AND PEOPLE GETTING ALONG KINDA SORTA.

NOT LIKE THE OTHER TREKS TRIED TO PRESERVE THAT MESSAGE

OH

WAIT

THEY

DID

(No I don’t know about the dude doing the Blue Steel back there, I barely remember Enterprise it’s boring)

“It’s about the actors performance.”

MAAAN, fuck that noise.

No, it’s not, there are HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of actors out there of Indian descent. You’re telling me that Binglebangle Coochiebutt was better than all of them? Show me the tapes, I gotta see that. Show me them auditions that I’m pretty sure they didn’t even do because casting a white dude is easier than being not a bastard.

People of color already struggle when it comes to seeing ourselves in the media, and before you go “But he’s a baaaad guy.” No one is saying that PoC can’t be cast as bad guys. It’s that we’re cast as the same kind of bad guys each and every fucking time. Mindless, one note, stereotypical.

Khan was different, he was smart, he was strong, he was cunning, he was layered. He garnered the respect of his enemies he was that fucking great. AND HE WAS BROWN. AWESOME SAUCE YEEEEEAAAAAH.

But nope, let’s cast a white dude because who gives a shit about diversity. HAHAHAA WE HONOR U GENE RODDENBERRY BY WHITEWASHING.

P.S I’m just gonna link this cause shut up I do what i want.

Reminder Martin Freeman is an asshat.

Letting ya’ll know.

sentientmachine:

yes

Elementary clearly stole “mind-attic” from Sherlock

it’s a total coincidence that Elementary’s version was closer to canon’s than Sherlock’s

w ow Elementary why don’t you try reading the books instead of stealing ideas from sherlock w o w

God those Elementary writers right?

#Sherlock #Elementary #Brain Attics are like Ari's fave thing #I love Brain Attics too because Sherlock #that's not how the brain works #you #douche / via sentientmachine-deactivated2013

Time to casually mention that Martin Freeman said the N-Word like 7 times in one interview

#Martin Freeman #Hobbit #Sherlock #Bilbo Baggins #Can't enjoy the Hobbit #Can't Enjoy Sherlock #jk that's mostly Moffat's fault #but still #sry 2 say

Sherlock stans are some shady fucking bitches

Lucy Liu says the chemistry will be different between a man and a woman and she’s a homophobe but when precious Benedict literally says there will be sexual tension between a man and a woman that wouldn’t be there between two men he’s just kawaii and naive uguu

y’all shady as fuck

Sorry, not sorry Sherlock stans but at this point Elementary is better

And if they don’t mess up Irene it’s the clear winner

Why do you think it’s better?

GLAD YOU ASKED!

Sherlock season 1 was interesting up until episode 2 where we had the “Yellow Scare.” all of the bad guys were Asian and we had to watch this weird Asian mystical…bull shit. It was like traveling back in British television history…

THEN WE GET TO SEASON 2.

IRENE ADLER

In the original stories Irene was a woman who just wanted to do whatever the hell she wanted to do, she tricked Holmes, got away scott free and left him a note detailing how she did it and “Good luck, I’m off to get married.”

Sherlock respected that.

IN THE SHOW

She was a Lesbian Dominatrix (I was here for that) WHO

Needed…to be saved…and didn’t really get away….and she fell in love with Sherlock…

a dude.

…..

…….

…………………………………………………………………………………………………

(flies off into the sun)

And the other reason Elementary wins is on the PoC representation point. In Sherlock we get ah….1…character of color that’s not a bad guy. Sally Donovan, who the fans can’t decide if she’s a bitchy witchy asshole, or someone who has a point, Sherlock is a dick, but she’s still a bitch.

Elementary has 1. Asian woman (AS WATSON), a black man, and a Hispanic/Latin@, in the main cast. NO MORE SHALL I BE FORCED TO WATCH 2 WHITE DUDES DO WHITE DUDE THINGS.

Also Moffat isn’t running the show so I mean that’s like +1000 already.

Why I’m glad CBS went “Fuck it” and just made Elementary instead of having Moffat do a Sherlock for them

While it is true Moffat was contacted about re-doing Sherlock for American audiences  and he declined, I want folks to really think long and hard why he was contacted to do an American one instead of just showing BBC’s Sherlock here in America?

Real

haaaaarrrd.

CADENCE!

I am a boring, lazy person. I watch a lot of TV

A looooot of TV.

A. Lot

I’ve noticed while it’s certainly possible for people from the U.S to like/enjoy television from the U.K and Vice Versa (duh) it’s not the majority of people’s cuppa. It’s the patter, the way things sound and work, I’mma need more samples, but things just flow differently in different places it seems.

So let’s take The Office. The first, let’s say season of The Office (U.S) was …well not good, because it took the scripts from The Office (U.K) and gave them to people who weren’t used to that kind of funny.

Now looking at The Office today, while it’s still similar it’s greatest asset was breaking free of trying to please people who liked the U.K version, and being…well American. It made it more popular, more accessible to the people that watch.

Has anyone ever seen the pilot to The It Crowd (U.S)? It was the same script, but because it didn’t feel natural so it wasn’t funny, it was English humor being portrayed by Americans (and Richard Ayoade who is flawless). Comedy, and really any type of Television, should flow easily, we as viewers should never feel like a show is trying to be/do something. It should do it/be it (GLEEEEEEEE)

When CBS contacted Moffat while I’m sure he’d have been a consultant of sorts, it was probably more for permission/blessing than saying “here do this for us.” Now, do I think Sherlock (U.S) could have worked? Probably, if nothing else the ho yay and queer baiting would surely bring in some fans, but tbh I don’t really want another Office (U.S) situation where I’m like, mothering the show. “Yes, come on, you can do this, SUCCEED.” (GLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE)

Moffat does not write for American audiences, not really. I do think he’s gotten some of it down, looking at the last season of Doctor Who, but honestly he’s not there yet and while I adored the last season besides River Song it was kinda vapid in terms of Character progression.

So, him saying no was probably the greatest thing. Instead of being allowed to rehash old scripts, while letting different actors learn a proper patter we get FRESH THINGS

TASTY FRESH THINGS

MADE FOR THEM/WITH THEM IN MIND.

JLM isn’t reading things that were written for Benedict, he’s reading lines meant for him. Lucy Liu doesn’t need to mimic Martin Freeman’s acting/relationship with Benedict, she gets to make her own decisions.

FREEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM

Also BBC Sherlock has already lost in the Diversity war so if they don’t fuck up Irene I am forced to declare it better goodbye.

Well that’s because calling his stories complex is quite frankly letting him off too easily - there’s a difference between complex and deliberately inscrutable
See Steven Moffat subscribes to a school of writing previously made famous by JJ Abrams and the rest of the dinguses who wrote Lost in that he understands that being deliberately obtuse about your plot is a cheap and effective way to make people watch your dumb show
I really hate to be that guy singing Russel T Davies’ praises right now because, as Last of the Time Lords, Journey’s End and The End of Time effectively demonstrate, good god is he by no means a perfect writer
But! But but but butt butte he understood that a good story is a good story and that good characters make you care about that good story and what Moffat does instead is beat you about the ears with the same stupid unanswerable questions in an effort to hold you hostage and show up for next week’s episode - and they’re not unanswerable due to complexity, they’re unanswerable because there’s no fucking way you’d know the answer to those questions. What are the Silence? How does River Song know The Doctor? What’s The Doctor’s real name? I don’t feel like watching Sherlock so I can include a Sherlock related question in this list I’m riffing?
There’s a point in all this, I’ll get to it right now
It’s this: if you’ve been paying attention to Steven Moffat’s style of writing you’d have known for ages leading up to this headline that he has no respect for his audience
He’s not a master of “mind-fuck”, he’s a master of “hahaha fuck you”

this is a bunch of things i’ve been trying to say and someone else got to it first good job
